Our Mission
At 31 Fire Protection, our mission is to deliver reliable, high-quality fire protection services that keeps your facility safe and compliant. We combine expertise, personalized service, and competitive pricing to meet the unique needs of every client.
What's in a Name?
Our name originated with a badge. When established in 2017, Mike was still on the job as a Fire Lt./EMT with a local department and wanted his company to reflect the values of the fire service and its traditions. His Badge number was 31 and he decided that was a good way to start. In 2022, the company purchased the recently decommissioned Elkhart TWP. Fire Station No. 3 as its new base of operations. Station 3 was also the house that ETFD Engine 31 responded out of, adding confirmation to the name choice made 5 years prior.
31 Fire Protection is a family owned and operated business dedicated to providing top-notch fire protection services. We serve Elkhart County and the surrounding areas with a focus on customer satisfaction and safety. Our team is committed to upholding the highest standards in fire protection, ensuring that our clients receive reliable and efficient service tailored to their specific needs. About Our Founder
Mike Bontrager served more than 30 year as a firefighter and paramedic. During this time he gained valuable knowledge and also worked as a Fire Protection technician for a local company before they were acquired by a larger company. Acquiring his NFPA 10 certification assures that he has the knowledge and skill to maintain every portable fire extinguisher to high industry standard.
Mike founded 31 Fire Protection in 2017 with the mission to provide honest and reliable fire protection services. With his real-world experience as a firefighter he brings a deep understanding and passion to the safety of every customer he serves.
